People constantly ask me, “what is the ideal stroke count in freestyle”?
The answer is, swimmers, especially triathletes, pay way too much attention to stroke count when it comes to swimming. Yes, stroke count is a great tool to use to measure your efficiency in the water. But it’s not everything! Pay attention to the steps in this video to optimize your freestyle without getting overly obsessive about the number of strokes it takes you to get from one end of the pool to the other.

How are they counting “strokes” is that each hand through the water is one stroke or is each hand in the water a stroke (e.g. left = 1, right = 1) dumb question but the stroke counts for a 25 sounds more like one right, one left = one stroke.
Hi Dave, sorry for the delay, your comment got buried somehow with some spam comments! Anyway, you were right the first time- it’s left= 1 stroke, right=1 stroke. I wouldn’t get too hung up on numbers though, just start from wherever you are and work on improving little by little. Hope this helps!
