Dear Fellow Triathlete,

I remember how I felt after my first triathlon. It seems like it was just yesterday. I was completely exhausted... and couldn't stop thinking about how soon I could do my next one. I was hooked — and I have been hooked on triathlons ever since.

Unfortunately for me, I don't get to do triathlons as much as I used to. You see, over the past 8 years I've become so busy as a swim coach — especially for other triathletes — that it leaves me very little time to do my own training.

Despite being as busy as I am, I still feel great knowing that I'm helping other people reach their dreams and helping to make triathlons more popular than ever.

I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. In fact, over the past decade triathlons have increased massively in popularity worldwide.

But as popular as the triathlon has become, many struggle with the same part of the race.

Even though swimming is the shortest part of the race, many view it as a "necessary evil." Others leave the water exhausted and discouraged. It's not because they're horrible swimmers or because they're not in shape... It's mostly just poor technique.

Swimmers waste energy trying to churn through the water instead of moving the body forward. It's like a hamster moving on a hamster wheel — the harder you try, the less progress you seem to make and the more tired you become.

Let's face it: It's no fun to compete in something when you have no confidence or you're wondering if you'll have any energy left to finish the other two parts of the race.

Hi, my name is Kevin Koskella. I've spent much of my life around competitive swimming, including a few years in college when I was an All-American swimmer.

Fast forward to the year 2000 — when I started to coach a masters swim team — and it was only a matter of time before people started asking me for a website like this. That's how TriSwimCoach.com came about.

Who The Heck Is Kevin Koskella and Why Should I Listen To Him?

"I've spent much of my life swimming competitively. In fact, while swimming for the University of California - Davis, I achieved All-American status.

I've taken my success in swimming and combined it with the very best philosophies and techniques that I've learned from some of the top swim coaches in the world.

Since 2000, this combination of physical skills, philosophy and technique have enabled me to train triathletes all the way from beginners through the professional levels and help them not only become better swimmers, but better triathletes."

If I can help them become better triathletes, then I can help you too."

I've never been comfortable with the traditional workout philosophies of "no pain, no gain" or "the longer you train, the better".

Then one day, I had a breakthrough. I realized you can't train for swimming the same way you do for cycling and running.

It didn't make sense to grind out swimming workouts like you could with the other two events... so I started searching for a better way to teach my swimmers.

The fact of the matter is training for an open water triathlon swim is not the same as training for competitive swimming. It requires more attention to the proper technique than ordinary high yardage anaerobic workouts.

How To Get More From Less...

I'm constantly testing new techniques and methods to help my swimmers hit new personal records. Anytime I find a particular method of swimming that intrigues me, I started incorporating it into my workouts.

What works becomes part of the techniques and drills used in the workouts, clinics, and private lessons that I offer. What doesn't work, gets quickly tossed away.

In other words, the workouts I teach are more results-producing instead of time-consuming!

"I just wanted to let you know that I could barely swim prior to my decision to do a triathlon. I found your website from a link on beginnertriathlete.com and am SO thankful I did!

I used all of your videos and the book to help me learn how to swim - and to swim well. The videos and the drills were invaluable.

Most importantly, I didn't drown :) and I finished the swim portion faster than I ever thought possible. It was AWESOME and I can't wait to do another one or two this year.

Thanks Kevin!"

"I'm a pretty smart guy and I can figure out most things for myself.

I assumed that becoming a good swimmer was just a matter practice. I got myself pretty far, in fact I can say I got myself as far as I could.

I plateaued and couldn't get any faster. During my second session using the drills and techniques shown (which I thought were very bizarre) I had a huge breakthrough.

My lap average dropped almost 10 secs. I truly now laugh at the water and can't wait for the next swim session and looking forward to even better perfomance.

Thanks Kevin!"
